Following my return home from Europe in the wake of Steves’s passing, I began to fill my time with making rings out of quarters. Nearly manically, I would spend entire afternoons, every day, shaping these rings. By the time I was able to return to Brevard and find other distractions, I had amassed a collection of 186 quarter rings. This distraction provided me an opportunity to deny the state of my grief. These rings allowed me to bide my time until I was in an environment where I could meditate and act more healthily.
