I Fell in Love in the Spring

24 x 36- combine painting

I still constantly fall in love in the spring. In the spring of 2013, I fell in love for the first time. The branches affixed to the canvas represent the light-filled foliage that framed our afternoon walks. The dress symbolizes the young love and playfulness in our bond while the candle placed over the heart of the dress expressed the intensity with which we loved. The wash of white over the entire piece relates to the innocence and youth that we entered into our relationship. Understandably, that relationship was not perfect. The candle wick over the heart demonstrates the destructive power that she held over me while I learned how to be in love.
