After my grandmother died in 2016, I was sitting on her living room couch struggling with all of the feelings that come along with these life events. My head was laid back on the headrest and my eyes shut. When I opened my eyes I saw a single beam of the sun through their sunroof. I painted this flat color-blocked scene of that moment as a message from my grandmother to myself that everything was going to be ok.
