Sunflower and a Finger of Scotch
Sunflower and a Finger of Scotch
In this pose, Kat is lost in thought, candidly captured when she thought I was adjusting the lens. I noticed that I had begun healing when for the first time I was able to emotionlessly sit there and think without being overcome by the thoughts. This piece shows acceptance of grief because I identified with that moment of a wandering mind. While some could interpret acceptance as the moment things go back to “normal”, I was more connected to the feeling of being aware of the grief at hand and moving through it steadily. Moments of reflection also inspired the title of this work. On Steve’s birthday, I visit his grave and leave a sunflower while sharing a shot of whiskey with him. This annual tradition has become a great moment to reflect on the previous year and my growth as a whole.
